Hammer mills are used for pre-grinding and final fine material grinding, humidity of which is not more than 15 percent.
Hammer mill has a body enclosed by steel or cast iron plates. Steel machine disc is reliably mounted on a horizontal shaft. Disc is equipped with several fixed and swinging claps (hammers) made of b, wearproof steel. Material ground in the working space begins to push through the grid changing the gaps width. Material grinding degree can be adjusted by setting the desired gap width.
During material final fine grinding it is discharged from machine by fan sanction that preferentially located directly on the mill shaft instead of the grid.
Material fine grinding in hammer mills is carried out both through hammer impacts and material particles friction on each other. It is also carried out through their friction on machine walls under air flow, generated when moving the hammers.
Disc with claps diameter in mills of this type can reach 2,000 mm, large hammer mills rotary speed may range from 500 to 1,000 per minute while of small mills - in the range from 1,000 to 3,000 per minute.
Grinding degree in hammer mills, which are used for preliminary grinding, is usually equal to 10 – 15 and grinding degree in the same mills that are used for fine grinding is equal to 30 - 40.
The main working part of hammer crusher is rotor on which several impact hammers are joint-mounted. Crusher rotor rotates at sufficiently high speed.
Starting material coming into hammer mill sidewise is partially broken out by rapidly rotating impact hammers. In the same time, large pieces of material are dropped out to horizontally and vertically arranged impact plates. After that, they fall on edge-runner track under centrifugal forces where they subjected to impact-reflective load.
Rod mills also called as impact-disc mills have two discs, one rotating and one fixed. Both discs are equipped with rods or claps. Circumferentially located beater rods (claps) are fixed on discs not close to each other but with a small space. Ground material is charged via the hopper in central hole of the fixed disc. Then while falling on rotating disc beater rods it falls outwardly under centrifugal forces through several rows of rods. Passing between the rods the pieces are ground due to impact-reflective load. Fine product is removed from rod mill via replaceable grid located along machine body perimeter or sucked by fan.
Material grinding in impact-disc mills is carried out due to round fingers put on rapidly rotating discs.
Impact-disc mill consists of two vertically arranged discs securely fixed on shafts.
Each disc has round impact fingers along its concentric circles. Each finger row of one disc with a small gap passes between two rows of another one. The number of fingers in concentric circles increases from the center to edge.
Material, which fed from the side along discs axis, falls into mill working space and immediately thrown toward periphery. Then it is picked up by round fingers of another disc, which rotates in opposite direction, and again thrown. At that, it is gradually ground and when grain size becomes smaller than a distance between fingers of the last row, ground material is thrown into machine body and removed via discharge hopper.
One of the shafts in mills used for viscous materials grinding is located in the movable bearings. Such mills design allows to move apart the discs and clean machine inner cavity while mill stopping.
As for rotation speed in impact-disc mills, it can range from 1,200 to 2,200 rpm. Such machines performance can be very different; it ranges from 500 to 18,000 kgf/h.
Due to very high rotation speed of the disc, any solid materials fed into machine can lead to serious accidents. In order to avoid such situations you should install special sieves and electromagnetic separators in front of mill charging hopper.
In order to avoid energy losses during air suction and injection while discs rotation at a high speed, the mill charging hopper should be connected to discharge space via the duct, on which bag-type filters catching carried away by air dust particles are mounted.
